AI Is a Lousy Closer - Here Is How to Use It Right

Let me tell you about a broker I spoke with last month. She had just rolled out an AI tool that auto-generated personalized outreach emails to every agent in her market - hundreds of them, every week. Open rates looked great. Responses? Almost zero. She could not figure out why. I could. The agents on the receiving end felt it. They always do.

AI Is Gasoline, Not Fire

Here is the metaphor I keep coming back to: AI is gasoline. It amplifies whatever fire you already have burning. If your relationships are warm, your intent is genuine, and your message is truly about the agent you are reaching - AI makes all of that faster and more consistent. But if you are using it to manufacture connection you have not earned yet, you are just pouring gasoline on an empty pit. Nothing catches. You just smell like fuel.

The brokers winning with AI right now are not the ones automating the most touchpoints. They are the ones automating the right touchpoints, so their human energy goes exactly where it matters most.

What AI Should Handle in Your Brokerage

There are real, unglamorous jobs AI does better than you. Let it do them. Market data aggregation. Tracking agent production trends across your MLS. Flagging agents who just had a career-best quarter - or a suspiciously quiet one. Drafting a first pass of a follow-up note you will then rewrite in your own words. Reminding you that it has been 47 days since you talked to someone on your watch list. These are execution tasks. They are not relationship tasks. The moment you confuse the two, you are in trouble.

The Line You Cannot Cross

The line is simple: never let AI be the relationship. It can surface the moment. It can draft the message. It can remind you of the promise you made at that coffee meeting in March. But you have to show up. You have to rewrite that draft in your voice. You have to pick up the phone. Agents join people, not platforms. They stay because of people, not automations. If an agent ever reads your outreach and thinks 'a robot wrote this,' you have already lost the room.

The Framework That Keeps You Human

At 3 Data Pulse, we sit underneath frameworks like Ninja Selling and the 4 Disciplines of Execution on purpose. We are not the shiny thing you show your agents. We are the system that makes sure you show up - consistently, personally, on time. AI inside a system like that becomes a force multiplier for human connection, not a replacement for it. That is the only version of AI adoption I will ever recommend.

Here is your do-this-now list:

1. Audit every automated touchpoint in your brokerage today. Ask: does this feel like me, or does it feel like a template?

2. Identify the five agents on your radar right now. Let AI surface the data. You write the message.

3. Before you add any new AI tool, ask one question - does this give me more time for real conversations, or does it replace them?

Until next time, keep nurturing those connections.
